Tracing back to the teachings of the 13th-century Rumi the Sufi , the Whirling Dervishes engage in a spiritual dance, known as the Sema, symbolizing the soul’s journey toward divine love.

About our cistern
Our performances take place in the stunning Şerefiye Cistern, an ancient underground water reservoir dating back to the Byzantine era. This architectural marvel has witnessed centuries of history and is a testament to Istanbul's rich cultural heritage.
The cistern was constructed in the 6th century and served as a vital water supply for the Great Palace of Constantinople. Today, it stands as a captivating venue where the spiritual and historical intertwine, providing a unique backdrop for our shows, enhanced by our innovative mapping technology
Musical instruments
THE SOUND OF THE HISTORY
QANUN: A string instrument played by plucking, known for its rich, resonant sound that adds depth to the music.
NEY: A traditional reed flute, played by blowing across the top, producing a soulful, airy tone that enhances the spiritual ambiance.
OUD: A lute-like instrument with a rounded body, strummed to create melodic lines that evoke deep emotions
KUDUM: A type of drum that provides rhythmic support, driving the energy of the performance with its vibrant beats
